Alcohol addiction is one of the most common, and most treatable, conditions we see. You don't have to white-knuckle this alone. Serving Saugus, Lynn, Revere, Malden, Chelsea, and the greater North Shore.
Confidential. No pressure. We'll explain your options clearly.
It's not a character flaw. It's a medical condition, and it responds to treatment.
Alcohol addiction, clinically known as alcohol use disorder (AUD), is a chronic brain condition characterized by an inability to control or stop alcohol use despite negative consequences. It exists on a spectrum, from mild to severe, and affects people of every background, profession, and walk of life.
Many people with alcohol use disorder function at a high level for years before the consequences become impossible to ignore. The idea that someone has to "hit rock bottom" before getting help is a myth that costs lives. The earlier treatment begins, the better the outcomes.
At Shine Wellness & Recovery in Saugus, we treat alcohol use disorder with the same clinical rigor and compassion we bring to every condition we address. Our approach is evidence-based, trauma-informed, and built around you, not a generic program designed for everyone. We serve individuals and families across the North Shore, including Lynn, Revere, Malden, Chelsea, Medford, Everett, and surrounding communities.
Approximately 25% of Massachusetts adults reported binge drinking in the past month. Alcohol use disorder affects millions of people who look perfectly fine from the outside.
Unlike many substances, alcohol withdrawal can be physically dangerous. We assess every client carefully and coordinate medical detox when clinically necessary before beginning outpatient treatment.
With the right support, alcohol use disorder has strong treatment outcomes. Our clinical team has helped hundreds of people across the North Shore build lasting recovery from alcohol.
The numbers are striking, but behind every number is a person who deserves help.
alcohol-related deaths in Massachusetts annually, consistently above national averages

Massachusetts Department of Public Health, 2024
young adults aged 18-25 in Massachusetts are estimated to have alcohol use disorder, 13.9% of that age group
SAMHSA National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 2023
These numbers represent real people, in Saugus, Lynn, Malden, Revere, Chelsea, Medford, and communities across the North Shore. Alcohol use disorder is not a personal failure. It is a public health crisis that deserves a clinical response. At Shine, that is exactly what we provide.
A comprehensive, individualized approach, not a one-size-fits-all program.
Alcohol use disorder treatment at Shine begins with a thorough clinical assessment to understand your history, your patterns of use, your health, and your goals. From there, your clinical team builds a treatment plan designed specifically for you, drawing on the most effective tools available.
Alcohol withdrawal can be medically serious. Our psychiatric nurse practitioner conducts a thorough evaluation and, where medical detox is clinically necessary, we coordinate a referral to a trusted detox partner before beginning outpatient treatment. We will be with you through that transition.
For clients where MAT is clinically appropriate, our psychiatric nurse practitioner can prescribe and manage Vivitrol (naltrexone injection) or oral naltrexone, both FDA-approved medications that reduce alcohol cravings and block the rewarding effects of drinking.
CBT helps identify the thoughts, triggers, and patterns that drive alcohol use, and builds practical skills for responding differently. It is one of the most well-researched therapies for alcohol use disorder.
DBT builds skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness, addressing the emotional drivers of alcohol use that often go untreated in traditional programs.
Facilitated group sessions provide connection, accountability, and shared understanding, one of the most powerful and consistently underestimated components of alcohol recovery.
On-site yoga, meditation, and mindfulness help rebuild the mind-body connection that alcohol use disrupts, offering healthy tools for stress, sleep, and emotional regulation that support long-term sobriety.
Alcohol addiction treatment at Shine is available at three levels of outpatient care, serving Saugus, Lynn, Revere, Malden, Chelsea, and surrounding communities.
6 hours per day, 5 days per week. Recommended for individuals who need a high level of structured support, including those stepping down from medical detox or inpatient care.
View treatment details3 hours per day, 3 to 5 days per week, with morning and evening options. Designed for people across the North Shore managing daily responsibilities alongside treatment.

Alcohol withdrawal is one of the few withdrawal syndromes that can be life-threatening. Symptoms can range from anxiety and tremors to seizures and, in severe cases, delirium tremens (DTs). For this reason, we carefully evaluate every client for withdrawal risk before beginning outpatient treatment.
If medical detox is clinically necessary, we will coordinate a direct referral to one of our trusted detox partners and support your transition into our PHP or IOP program once you are medically stable. We will not simply send you away, we will stay connected throughout that process and have your placement ready when you are.
If your level of alcohol use does not require medical detox, we may be able to begin outpatient treatment directly. Our psychiatric nurse practitioner will make that determination on your first clinical assessment.
If you are unsure whether you need medical detox, call us. We will ask you a few questions and give you an honest answer. Do not attempt to stop drinking abruptly on your own without medical guidance, call us or go to an emergency room if you are experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms.
We'll reach out to your insurance company, explain exactly what's covered, and walk you through any costs before you ever start treatment. No guessing, no hidden bills , just clear answers up front.
We accept most major insurance plans.
