What to Expect on Your 1st Day

A clear, calm path from the parking lot to your first group session. No surprises, no confusion, just support from the moment you arrive.
Confidential. No pressure. We'll explain your options clearly.
Walking through the door on your first day of treatment is one of the hardest steps you'll ever take, and also one of the most important. At Shine Wellness & Recovery in Saugus, Massachusetts, we know that the unknown is often scarier than the reality. That's why we want you to know exactly what your first day will look like before you ever arrive. No surprises, no confusion, just a clear, calm path from the parking lot to your first group session.
Whether you're seeking help for yourself, supporting a loved one, or arriving after a referral from a professional, your first day is designed around one simple goal: helping you feel safe, welcomed, and supported from the very first moment.
Arrive and Check In
When you arrive at our Saugus location, you'll find convenient, easy parking just steps from our front door. Our front desk team will greet you warmly and help you check in, no long lines, no confusing forms to fill out standing up, and no feeling like just another name on a list. You'll be offered a seat in our comfortable waiting area, where you can take a breath before the next step.
Meet Your Care Team
You won't be handed off to a stranger. On your first day, you'll meet the actual people who will be walking alongside you in your recovery, your care manager, a member of our clinical team, and often a recovery coach who has walked this path themselves. Many of our staff are in recovery too, which means the person sitting across from you genuinely understands what you're feeling, because they've felt it themselves. This isn't just an introduction; it's the beginning of a relationship built on trust.
Paperwork Made Simple
We know paperwork can feel like one more overwhelming hurdle on a day that already feels like a lot. Our team has streamlined the admissions paperwork so it's as simple and painless as possible. We'll walk you through each form, answer your questions as they come up, and make sure you understand exactly what you're signing and why. Insurance verification happens before you ever arrive, so by the time you're filling out paperwork, you already know what's covered.
Tour the Space
Before you settle into your first group or session, we'll give you a full tour of our facility, the lobby, group rooms, kitchen and lounge area, and private offices. We want you to see where you'll be spending your time and feel a sense of familiarity, not uncertainty. Many clients tell us that seeing the space ahead of time, whether on our virtual tour or in person on day one, eases a lot of the anxiety they walked in with.
Join Your First Group
Your first day typically includes joining your first group session, where you'll meet other people who are walking a similar path. This can feel intimidating to think about in advance, but in the room, it rarely feels that way. Our groups are built on respect, shared experience, and zero judgment. You don't have to share anything you're not ready to share, you can simply listen on day one if that's what feels right.
What to Bring on Your First Day
We recommend bringing a valid photo ID, your insurance card (if applicable), and a list of any current medications. Comfortable clothing is encouraged, this is a space to feel at ease, not formal. If you have questions about what to bring for your specific program (PHP, IOP, or outpatient), our admissions team is happy to walk you through it on your intake call.
You Are Not Walking In Alone
Every single member of our team remembers what it felt like to walk through these doors for the first time, many of us because we've done it ourselves. Your first day at Shine Wellness & Recovery isn't about judgment or paperwork; it's about taking one more step toward the life you deserve. We're here to make that step as easy, comfortable, and human as possible.
If you have any questions about what your first day will look like, our team is available 24/7 to walk you through it before you ever arrive.
